pinhole photography
Pinhole photography is a type of photo which is made by cutting a hole in a tin,can or car board pot/box and covering it with aluminium or duct tape and leaving a flap or strip you can pull away form the hole which then exposes light to the light sensitive paper which then captures an image of your surrounding or the theme on which you are basing your photo on.when using pinhole photography the picture tends to come out black and white but can be changed in photoshop by inverting it or putting affects on some of the pictures look like a type of lens called fisheye is used on them making them look round and bulged
classwork
this is the image that me and my group took with the pinhole camera we used the biscuit tin and exposed it for 40 seconds to get the aperture the paper could have been moved more to the centre of the pinhole so the image wasn't of and in the corner
this is the image after going through photoshop and being inverted so it is not in negative as i said before the paper could have been more in the centre so it didn't have the whole black area at the bottom but it could pf had an image on
a history of pinhole photography
pinhole photography was made found by Chinese writers who experimented with what they done and found that light travels in lines.mo ti the philosopher was the first person to make an inverted image with a pinhole camera he found that all objects have light rays and that when going into a pinhole camera the rays from the top of the object came out at the bottom of the photo.
what is pinhole photography
pinhole photography is an image made with no lens but an aperture in a light proof box with a small hole the size of a pin on one of the sides light travels through the hole and produces an inverted image on the other side of the box
how to make one
for the pinhole camera you will need a cardboard box or carton like a gravy pot or you can use a drinks can like a coke or sprite can
1:make sure your gravy pot or can is dry and not dirty
2: cut a small rectangle around approximately 5 cm each side but only 3 times so there is a flap
3:put some foil paper on the inside of the rectangle by taping it on the inside
4: use black tape to put over the cardboard flap and make sure there are no are bubbles and make a small handle so you are able to pull the flap when taking your image
5: get a pin and put the pin through the foil paper but not all the way through so the hole isn't to big
6: make sure to paint all black on the inside and on the lid if its a gravy pot
7: secure the lid for the pot so the lid is completely
8: now go have fun with your pinhole camera hope this simple step by step guid

my evaluation on his image:the image looks like any normal day in a laundry shop where people come to just wash their clothes but steven pippin came up with the idea to turn a washing machine into a pinhole camera and the discolouration is the chemicals from the washing machine he used the process of the washing machin to produce the image the chemicals in the washing machine made the image so it wasn't in negative when it came out of the washing machine he made a collection of images of him walking in the shop so he put them in a collection which i think worked well because if the image was by itself it wouldn't really make any sense but because its in a collection you can see its showing the normal day in a life of a person that anyone can relate to

steve ashton
Steve ashton is a pinhole photographer who started around 5 years ago and since then has taken photos with a pinhole camera his photos are mainly based around architectural decay like in the photo of the rotting/broken boat.after taking photo after photo on normal digital cameras he realised he wasn't getting the photos he had in mind because after spending a lot of time on post production for the images but they still were not coming close to what he wanted in his photography.
My evaluation on his image:
in this image the fact it look like it is in a distant land filed with mystery that lets the mind wonder how the boat or object actually got there in the first place.if the image was in acollection i think it would look better when in a gallery/collection because if the picture was hung up in a gallery by its self it wouldn't draw any attention because it would look boring a dull but if this in a collection with images that were very similar they would seem to be very fascinating to the public and would get more attention because the photographer could take the images in order so they look like a story told through pictures that the public would be able to understand the story because of how they are pieced together.

evaluation
The composition of this image has been taken in the corner of a courtyard and the pinhole has been made so that the top of the courtyard has become stretched out. This makes some of the image look taller and distorted. This photo looks like it has been taken by a panoramic camera, but sideways, that's why it looks longer than it should.I like that at the centre of the image the negative space creates a diamond shape. This draws the attention to the centre of the image. The image gives the effect that you are trapped inside where the walls look taller and you are not able to escape. The middle of the image is very bright were the edges are very dark but you are still able to make out the images. The way the image has been taken gives the effect that its an abstract image and looks 2d and all sorts of shapes and gives the smallest effect of an optical illusion.
